Cloutier is one of the oldest players in the game and also one of the most
successful. Despite the fact that he has
yet to win a World Series of Poker main event bracelet, Cloutier is one of the
finest players in the game today. He is
widely admired among the poker elite and manages to be a mainstay in the poker
community despite the fact that he lives in Texas.
His life has not been one that is easy by any stretch. He started in college under a football and
baseball scholarship. Cloutier was
forced to leave the school though because his family fell on hard times.
Cloutier was drafted into the army and served his time as quick as possible but
he learned to play poker and began to know the wealth that could come with
being a poker player. He dropped out of
the poker seen after leaving the army and started playing football on a
professional level for the Canadian Football League.
Sadly an injury would cut his career very
short and he was left with no job. This
led him to start his own business. He
opened a business that specialized in wholesale food products that were
delivered to businesses. The company
started out making money but soon the competition was more than the company
could with stand and it folded. Once
again Cloutier found himself jobless and at this point moved to Texas to seek work on
the oil rigs. The jobs paid high but
meant long hours and frequent injuries.
In his off time Cloutier played poker and quickly became a master, so
much that he was banned from every after hours game to be found and he learned
that he was making a lot more money in poker than he was in the oil rig
business. Cloutier quit his job and made
himself a full time professional poker player which he remains today.
The
fact that Cloutier has never won a World Series of Poker main event is a bit of
a sore spot for the vet. It is certainly
not for a lack of trying and he has placed in the top five numerous times but
that does not cut it for Cloutier. He
has his eyes on that bracelet and will stop at nothing to make that dream come
true. Even without the bracelet and
title he has still won over six million dollars in live tournament play in his
career and amassed a huge fortune from his winnings in the cash action that
regularly takes place. This all means
very little to Cloutier as his eyes are focused on the honor of the top spot,
not the money.
