Martin De Knijff

Martin De Knijff is one of the best poker players to come out of Sweden that the world has ever seen.  Of course that is saying a lot for someone who does not play poker year round.  He instead enters the tournaments that he wants to play in then leaves.  This is becoming more and more popular with some of the best in the business as they no longer see glamour in the world of spending seven days a week trying to find a game then playing for many hours on end.  Knijff has a young child and does not want the child to grow up not knowing him so he makes the choice to stay home more often than you standard poker player.    The start of Knijff’s career was with five card draw before he was turned on to the Omaha and Hold ‘Em styles of play which he now prefers.

This helped to launch him into full time professional play and he has been here ever since.  His first real accomplishment came in the 2002 World Series of Poker where he placed thirteenth and garnered over sixty thousand dollars for his efforts.  He followed this with some wins in the World Poker Tour that brought millions to his bank account.  Knijff is an outspoken supporter of tournament backers coming out and letting the world know who they are.  This has not met with much praise from the poker playing community and has caused a fair bit of grief for the young player but he still presses on and he is known as a very nice and respectable player at the tables, something that a lot of players can not say.

While not playing poker Knijff runs a poker club in Stockholm which is open twenty four hours a day and he uses this as a source of income that is not derived from his winnings in poker tournaments.  The income allows him to have more time to spend with his young child and that is what is most important to him.

Knijff was born October 2, 1972 in Sweden where he still resides to this day.  At age 34, Knijff is a major thorn in the side of some of the best players in the game.  He has an overly aggressive playing style and is known to be able to bluff the best of them.  Of course he is not vain and says that he is always learning no matter what the situation.
