Chip Reese

David Edward “Chip” Reese is one of the many veterans in the poker world and one of the many that has yet to win the coveted World Series of Poker main event bracelet, but that all matters very little to the high class player.  He was not a man who sought poker as a profession, wanting instead to lead a life of comfort following college.  Born March 28, 1951, Reese was a football player while in college and gave serious consideration to becoming a professional.  This was not to be as he took a short vacation to Las Vegas in 1974.

During this trip he would win over sixty thousand dollars and he was instantly hooked.  Leaving everything else behind he turned to professional poker full time and has never left the game.  To help fill the void between wins, Reese took a job as the card room manager of the Dunes casino.  This job would serve him well as he took the chance to watch some of the greatest players to ever live in their element and he used the knowledge in the many tournaments that he would enter.

At this point Reese is the proud owner of two World Series of Poker bracelets in the lower events and has finished as high as twenty-third in the main event.  Over the years he has had eleven money finishes in the main event and has also joined the ranks of the World Poker Tour with many finishes in the money and one final table appearance. In 1991 at the age of forty he became the youngest player ever to be inducted into the Poker Hall of Fame.

While Reese continues to be a mighty force in the poker world he does not play in tournaments anymore.  He has found that there is more money and better opportunities in the many high stakes cash games around Las Vegas so he has decided to concentrate his efforts there.  He does say that he will enter the World Series of Poker main event until he finally wins the top honor.

Reese is also a writer who has worked with Doyle Brunson on his famous Super System series of poker instruction books.  Today at age fifty-five you can still find Reese in one of the many casinos winning the big pots and making the best of all the play that there is to be had.
